Yamaha has announced a new fleet of wireless AV receivers, all with HDMI 2.0 featuring 4k60p signal support and HDCP 2.2. The RX-V79 line-up comprises two 5.1 models, the RX-V379 (which retails for £300), and the RX-V479 (£400); plus three 7.1 designs, in the shape of the £500 7.1 RX-V579, £600 RX-V679 and £700 RX-V779.
The RX-V379 is wireless via Bluetooth, while the RX-V479 and above add W-iFi to the mix. The network chip supports Airplay, Spotify Connect, DLNA, plus playback of WAV, FLAV, AIFF, ALAC and DSD files. All of the new models feature HDCP 2.2 compliance, the new content protection protocol that will feature on 4K media. “By supporting this before the medium becomes available, Yamaha has enabled customers to upgrade their AV Receiver ahead of time in preparation for a whole new era of 4K Ultra HD video content,” says the company.
Other features include YPAO-RSC auto calibration, virtual presence speaker (VPS) technology and new virtual surround back speakers (VSBS). The range feature Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding , but not Dolby Atmos or DTS:X. On that front, watch this space says Yamaha. CI channel distribution is through Habitech.
