Ascendo Immersive Audio has introduced The 28 Sub Pro Squared, a novel new subwoofer that employs a radical flat panel cone design, that could transform how subwoofers are integrated into smaller, space-conscious home theatre projects.
Just 30cm deep and 100 cm high, this passive sealed subwoofer has been designed to give the highest output while occupying minimal space. Distribution is through Karma-AV.
The 28-inch composite sandwich flat panel cone is built from multiple layers of Rohacell (a rigid foam typically used for aerospace applications), and has the cone area equivalent to a 32-inch round subwoofer.
Coupled to the engineered muscle needed for the rapid acceleration of the cone (22mm Xmax excursion each direction), the design results in a subwoofer that produces a perfect planar wave front, with high efficiency, and ultra-high-power handling. A shallow roll-off, combined with ultra-dynamic response, means that every sound from the new design hits with native speed, attack, and impact, says the brand.
Weighing 140 kg, the 28 Sub Pro Squared is intended for baffle wall, or free-standing applications behind fabric or screen. The unique construction also allows for woofers to be spaced very closely together, achieving perfect coupling for bass array systems with control up to 120Hz. SPL is rated at140 dB at 80 Hz and up; 123 dB at 20Hz; and 100 dB at11Hz
In clusters for a shallow, wide and high wall of bass, and ideal for integration with Trinnov WaveForming and Dirac Active Room Treatment (ART), the new model is capable of reproducing single-digit infrasonic frequencies, yet can also soar well above the LFE cutoff frequency of 120Hz to serve as the ultimate kick woofer.
