AMX is now shipping its slimline Alero 16-channel power amplifier, the ALR-AMP-8. First seen at CEDIA Expo 2013, the 1U high Alero not only makes efficient use of rack space but utilisies Bang & Olufsen derived ICEpower amplification, offering 50w/per channel at 8ohms.

AMX says the Alero design has been based on feedback from integrators eager for small footprint distributed audio components, for installation in already overcrowded equipment racks. AMX says as a result the ALR-AMP-8 offers never-before-seen versatility, creating "practically limitless installation options, even in confined, unventilated spaces."

Able to bring stereo to eight zones, the Alero would typically be partnered with the AMX Precis DSP distributed audio matrix switcher. Class D ICEpower amplification its highly regarded in audiophile circles, lauded for both is high dynamic power (here delivering up to 110dB) and advanced heat dissipation. AMX says this environmentally friendly characteristic makes for an ideal multi-room solution: "Alero significantly reduces environmental impact by using less active power, less standby power and no external cooling source requirements to lower power consumption even further. And unlike linear power regulation used in Class AB amplifiers," The company adds that the Alero Class D amp employs switching transistors, resulting in "significantly less energy loss."

The Alero, which can be rack or shelf mounted, features eight dip switches which select whether the eight zones should be configured as stereo or bridged mono.
