Bristol Sound and Vision show opens its doors this week, celebrating its 30th anniversary. Visitors wanting to sample the latest in Home Cinema, should head to the 3rd floor, 322 and 324 to experience Karma-AV’s Atmos-configured cinema demo room. At the heart of it is the award winning SVS SB16 Ultra active subwoofer: a 16-inch fibreglass driver and 1500W amplifier; and Primare’s evergreen hi-res streaming machine: the I32 amplifier.

The SVS Ultra 16-inch driver features a record 8-inch edge wound voice coil, the largest ever deployed in a consumer subwoofer. Its massive voice coil girth allows the amplifier to exert complete control over the driver and remain accurate and distortion-free with pinpoint speed, even at reference playback levels. Four of the heaviest toroidal ferrite magnets ever used in a subwoofer generate unprecedented levels of magnetic force, and machined motor elements produce astounding levels of low frequency output.

The cone material consists of a premium fiberglass resin composite that moves extreme amounts of air and sonic energy without ever flexing or losing control. The mammoth driver is controlled by a Sledge STA-1500D amplifier with fully discrete MOSFET output, conservatively rated at 1500 watts continuous, 5,000+ watts peak. The fully discrete MOSFET output represents an upgrade over the less robust integrated circuit output stages found in nearly all other Class D subwoofer amplifiers.

Then enjoy an injection of AV adrenalin in the room next door from a Primare-boosted SVS Dolby Atmos system, featuring the UK debut of the ‘Prime Elevation’ height effects speaker supported by the fear-inducing new SVS SB16 active subwoofer: a truly stimulating marriage of 16-inch fibreglass driver and 1500W amplifier. Complementarily immersive video is supplied by Vivitek’s H5098 projector illuminating a 2m Ultimate Screens screen.
