SVS has developed a subwoofer isolation system which it says not only improves bass response but reduces sound propagation. The SoundPath Subwoofer Isolation System, aka subwoofer feet, provide an inexpensive and discreet alternative to traditional sound isolation techniques.
Designed to reduce floor-shaking vibrations, the boots come in packs of four, for standard sized subwoofers or six for larger models, and in three popular thread sizes (with thread sizes of ¼-20, M6 or M8) which the brand says will accommodate " virtually any subwoofer, SVS brand or otherwise." The durometer elastomer feet feature a durable anodised steel outer shell with steel machine screws, and can be installed in minutes.
SVS engineers believe that decoupling a subwoofer from its surroundings in this way has a number of positive effects. The floor because less of an influence on the soundfield with boom tamed and vibrations, which on a system run in anger can result in windows rattling in their frame or plates clinking, reduced. Bass notes are notoriously difficult to contain, because the longer low frequency wavelengths travel further and pass more freely through the air.
"Believe it or not, a common question the SVS support team gets asked is, How can I enjoy my subwoofer as loud as I want without bothering my roommates or neighbours?" reveals Gary Yacoubian, SVS president. "The SoundPath Subwoofer Isolation System was developed for audio fans who want better bass performance without the room effects, and also for those who live in close proximity to neighbours, so they can enjoy movies and music without disturbing the sleeping baby next door, studying roommates or the elderly couple playing bridge below them."
The SVS SoundPath Subwoofer Isolation System is available now, priced at $49.99 for a four feet packahe, and $69.99 for six. SVS distribution in the UK is via Karma-AV.
