AWE signs LG TV distro pact…
AWE has begun distribution of LG's 84-inch 4K flagship TV, the
84LM960V, along with the brand's new Cinema Screen widescreen Full
HD TVs. The 960 series feature a super slim bezel, dual core
processor, Magic remote control, four pairs of Passive 3D glasses
and two pairs of Dual Play spex, allowing two people to watch
different pictures simultaneously. Paul Mott, Sales Director at AWE
says: "LG has dramatically upped its design, quality and
functionality over the last few years. Now with the launch of the
84-inch UHD TV, it became clear that it was a brand that suited
AWE's CI customer base. We're therefore very pleased to announce
the appointment of AWE as LG's premium partner for the CI channel."
AWE says it will offer a complete package for installers, including
technical support. AWE Technical Services has been appointed to
deliver and install LG screens...
Sony back in black…
Sony has reported its first profit in five years. Net
income was 43 billion yen, compared with a loss of 456.7 billion
yen last year. Operating income for the year was 230.1 billion yen,
compared to an operating loss of 67.3 billion yen previously,
thanks primarily to asset sales and restructuring. However Sony's
home entertainment division saw sales decline by 22.5 per
cent.
4K panel prices plummet…
Leading LCD panel maker AU Optronics is predicting as much as 20m
per cent of its 55-inch and up LCD panel shipments will be 4K by
year-end. It also believes that economies of scale and yield
improvements will enable it to close the price gap with comparably
sized Full HD panels. Currently a 4K LCD panel costs just under
twice as much as Full HD.
Homes of the Future today…
North of the border residential CI specialist Lairds of Troon is
holding a Homes of the Future consumer event at the Olympic
Business Park in Dundonald on May 23. The appointment-only
afternoon will showcase Smart home and theatre technology. Both
equipment suppliers and architects will be in attendance. An Indian
finger buffet will be served…
SpeakerCraft reversed…
In-wall speaker leader SpeakerCraft has confirmed that early
samples of its CS3 soundbar solution have shipped with the digital
audio inputs reversed. Simon Spears, Director of International
Sales, told Inside CI that he was waiting "for the full
report" on what happened, adding that he couldn't believe "this
issue would have been missed." He says the problem has now
been addressed - "the ones we have now are all good…"

Popular media players Roku 2 and Roku Lt are getting a shiny
new user interface. The improved UI firmware update rolls out over
the next 2 weeks...
Best Buy bails for good…
Best Buy, which ducked out of the UK retail market last year, is
selling its 50 per cent stake in Carphone Warehouse, putting an end
to the dream of its joint venture Best Buy Europe opening huge CE
stores across the continent and launching mobile shops in the
US...
A-hock-alypse Now!
Legendary movie maker by Francis Ford Coppola has become the
Godfather of American wine, after his vineyard swept the boards at
the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC), taking 26
Awards. A claret and a shiraz scooped judges' top mark of 'gold
outstanding.' The vineyard's Emily Putman said: "It's a pleasure
working for our owner Francis who takes a hands-on approach in
everything from the visual aspect of the labels to designating time
to travel the globe and promote the wines - so that he can
share his wines with everyone, everywhere." The director
of The Godfather and Apocalypse
Now has been making wine at his California vineyard,
Francis Ford Coppola Presents, for more than 35 years.
