AV distributor RGB Communications has announced the formation of a new Internet of Things division to strengthen its foothold in the Smart Home market. The move sees the distributor expand from its traditional AV ground and follows the success the brand has had with the Nest family of products - the Nest Learning Thermostat, Nest Protect, Nest Cam (pictured above) and accessories.
Smart Home technology is a big opportunity for the custom installer, says David Webster, RGB’s Chief Technology Officer: “Although many IoT products are relatively low cost and low margin, clients are becoming aware of devices like the Nest Learning Thermostat and are specifically asking their AV installer for them.”
Nest, along with many other IoT products have great appeal to the mid-market as well as the high-end. says David Webster, RGB’s Chief Technology Officer. "This combination of low cost, wide market appeal and high demand result in a massive opportunity for RGB and its customer’s to maximise business opportunities in this area."
Heading up RGB’s IoT group is Russell Wiles. Russell has 24 years of experience in the AV industry, having held managerial position in two leading AV companies.
“With a wealth of experience in the industry as well as a very forward thinking, professional and proactive attitude, Russell is the perfect addition to our team at RGB and has all of the attributes we need to be very successful in the IoT market place,” says Gordon Innocent, RGB CEO.
RGB is promising installers that it will offer the same level of technical support to its IoT product customers as it does with its existing product portfolio. RGB’s training academy will also be running courses on its IoT products; a number of very well received ‘Nest’ training sessions have already been held.
“The IoT market has the potential to transform the way we live our lives, as well as the very fabric of Commercial and Residential Installations,” says Andy Atwell, Sales Director. “This view is widely held amongst industry experts and precisely why RGB are setting up a dedicated division.”
