When I was first introduced to Velodyne DD range of subwoofers, which was not that long ago, I just thought it was another black subwoofer that was no different to any other manufacturer stating that their sub is the best. Well I was surprised to say the least when I connected the new DD18 to one of our demo rooms; this was an awesome piece of kit. The power of this sub is unbelievable it virtually shook my fillings out of my teeth, but in a good way, the bass not only creeps up on you it hits you where it hurts when the movie brings on some LFE. The design and finish are a cut above with a nice shinny gloss finish, the one I was testing was a Piano black. What I found straight away was the endless power that came with this sub, I doubt anybody of sane mind could get this beast over half power without it sounding like the lad that bought his first souped-up car and put his Alpine car audio system in, that actually cost more than his car.
I love the state of the art auto equalisation software setup that allows you to set this sub up in difficult rooms and my demo room is notoriously difficult to get the right position for a sub to work to its 100% potential without some cancelation. The DD 18 was no different at being awkward to setup in my room but when finished sounded brilliant.
Favourite demo material Tron (Bass so deep it could cause serious damage)
