Primare outs BD32 MKII audiophile Blu-ray player with play-everything attitude

Primare has unleashed an updated version of its audiophile BD32 universal Blu-ray player. The MKII iteration features the same substantial build quality but features a refined circuit design, 4K upscaling and integrated Netflix.     

Audio disc compatibility covers CD, DVD-A and SACD. As in the original BD32, the SACD DSD circuit has its own dedicated relay-controlled-filter signal path. There’s also has an integrated media player to play music, video and photos from USB and DLNA compatible networked sources. Audiophiles will be pleased to note that the BD32 MkII is compatible with both stereo and multichannel DSD 2.8224 MHz (DSD64) files in DFF or DSF formats via USB hard drives, USB thumb drives and SMB protocol.

Connectivity includes a fully-balanced stereo XLR output, alongside stereo phonos and a full 7.1 multi-channel output. The stereo output circuitry uses a Crystal DSD CS4398 DAC in conjunction with Primare’s balanced analogue output stage, featuring Burr-Brown OPA2134 OP-Amps. All video sources can be upscaled to 3840 x 2160, with the primary HDMI 1 primary output employing a Marvell Qdeo Kyoto-G2 video processor for up-scaling and video adjustment functions. Wi-Fi isn’t integrated, however a dongle is provided in the box.

There are also isolated power supplies for transport, video board, display and audio. A separate master switch mode power supply is used for the disc loading tray and video section, alongside a C-core transformer for the audio section. The front panel display circuitry is isolated from AV circuits by a discrete section of the player’s aluminium chassis. The BD32 MKII retails for £3,500. Distribution is via Karma-AV.
