Esoteric European hi-fi outfit Primare is offering an aptX Bluetooth upgrade for its current streaming hi-fi separates. Suitable for the PRE60 preamp, NP30 network player and streaming versions of the I32 stereo amplifier (pictured above) and PRE32 pre-amplifier, it takes the form of a small internal circuit board and external antenna; the threaded antenna input replacing the FM/DAB terminal on the MM30 fascia and using a vacant, pre-prepared portal on the back panel of the PRE60 and NP30.
Rather than use an integrated DAC, the output is fed to the host product’s own Sample Rate Converter and up-sampled to 192kHz. This way, argues Primare, maximum audio performance is ensured.
A software update via the PrimareApp adds the BT input to the product control menu; it’s possible to rename the input for the product display and the BT connection. The aptX upgrade is priced at £180, but is free with PRE60 and supplied as standard on all new PRE60 models. Distribution is via Karma-AV.
