Harman has unleashed a new JBL Synthesis home theatre pre-power combo and two new multichannel network amps at ISE 2015. The SDP-25 processor and matching SDA-7200 seven channel amplifier are intended for premium theatre installations. The SDP-25 offers six HDMI 1.4 inputs and two HDMI outputs, with 4K Ultra HD compatibility, plus dual-subwoofer outputs, multiple digital and analogue inputs, plus RS-232 and IR control options. Decoder support covers both DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby True-HD.
The partnering SDA-7200 7-channel digital amplifier delivers 200 watts per channel (into 8-ohms). The S7200 includes phono inputs and chunky binding post outputs, plus a 12V trigger input and signal-sensing auto-power on. Both units feature black brushed-aluminum front panels, with blue LED status indicators.
Joining the home theatre duo are the SDA-8300 and SDA-4600 multichannel network amps, described as Next Generation power amplifiers by Jim Garrett, director of marketing and product management. The 8-channel SDA-8300 delivers 300w total (into 8 ohms) while the 4-channel SDA-4600 provides 600W. Both models offer networked audio and control connectivity to the brand’s matching surround sound preamplifiers, equalizers and other components, via Ethernet. Overall weight reduction has been made possible by Harman’s proprietary DriveCore Class D technology which reduces power consumption and generates far less heat in an equipment rack.
“Our new SDA-8300 and SDA-4600 offer significantly improved performance along with flexible networking capabilities in a JBL Synthesis custom-installation home theater system,” says Garrett, adding that the newcomers offer “exceptional energy efficiency and have space-saving form factors.”
In addition to digital audio connectivity and control, the amplifiers’ networking connectivity provides continuous load monitoring and other diagnostics. Both models offer comprehensive DSP capabilities that enable performance characteristics to be tailored to any room.
