Some installs never quite go the way the client had originally intended, with suitably pleasing results. Consider this project undertaken by Banbury-based Overture. When the owner of the approached first enquired about a cinema, he had a relatively small room in mind. But a recce quickly identified that the basement 'party' room, complete with cabling for professional PA speakers, disco lights and even a dance floor, had far more potential as a home theatre.
Although the structure of the room couldn't be altered, acoustic treatment was applied to the walls and ceiling to reduce any sonic anomalies. When it was suggested to the client that a bar could be built at one end of the 13m long room, the idea of losing his dedicated party space didn't seem so bad at all.
The end result is spectacular. Fabric walls and matching blinds to the cinema area, and speakers concealed behind the 4m screen, the area looks and sounds the part. Lights, blinds and cinema components are all controlled using Control4, including C4's new Panelized Lighting offering.
Video projection is courtesy of the Sony VPL-VW1000ES 4K Ultra Highh Definition projector, onto a Seymour acoustically transparent 4 metre screen. The 7.2 audio system is powered by Miller and Kreisel S150 speakers and X12 subwoofers, with Parasound Halo amplification and Integra DHC-80.3 processor coupled to an Oppo Blu-ray player - no 4K consumer alternative being available just yet.
Finishing off the theatre is comfy-looking two-tier seating from FrontRow. Overture says the client is "delighted with the finished result - not only do his movies look and sound great but he likes listening to his music on the system too!" Frankly, we're not surprised. This project is a stunner!
