Due early September, priced £2,499, the True X Surround 90A (also known as the SR-X90A) is said to be the culmination of more than two decades of Yamaha soundbar innovation. It fuses hallmark technologies from the brand's famed YSP Sound Projector series and AV receivers with next-generation beam speaker architecture, creating a flagship system designed to deliver full-scale surround sound in an install-friendly package.

The True X Surround 90A comprises a low-profile soundbar, a wireless subwoofer featuring Yamaha’s patented Symmetrical Flare Port, and a pair of portable True X rear speakers. Codec support covers Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro-3D.

A cornerstone of the 90A’s design is Yamaha’s Surround:AI engine, adopted from its premium AV receiver line. This proprietary technology analyses scenes in real time, identifying key sound elements such as dialogue, music, and effects, then dynamically adjusts processing to match the content.

Twelve beam speakers are mounted in the main unit, six on each side, angled upward. The front of the unit houses newly designed eye-shaped oval drivers, engineered for balance between size, sound pressure, and clarity.

The subwoofer’s symmetrical flare port offers a 20dB reduction in unwanted port noise compared to traditional designs. The result is rich, powerful bass with minimal distortion, ideal for cinematic playback in both media rooms and living spaces.

The True X wireless ecosystem adds another layer of flexibility. Rear speakers can be detached and used as standalone Bluetooth speakers elsewhere in the home, useful in when it comes to multi-room listening in secondary zones.

Yamaha’s MusicCast platform is also integrated, enabling seamless networking across compatible products. Via the MusicCast app, users can calibrate beam speaker angles, adjust channel levels, and manage multiple zones.

Visually, the True X Surround 90A offers a minimalist aesthetic; the chassis, grille design, and support feet have all been acoustically optimised.

The Yamaha True X Surround 90A is expected to reach the UK market in early September, priced at £2,499.
