Wharfedale has announced the Nova Series, a new family of active subwoofers for music and movies.
The Nova 8 is the most compact model, designed for smaller rooms, desktop systems and discreet installations. The Nova 10 offers greater scale while retaining agility, making it suitable for medium‑sized rooms. The Nova 12 provides deeper extension and increased dynamic impact for larger listening environments and immersive home cinema. At the top of the range, the Nova 15 delivers commanding output and depth for demanding installations.
Linking each is a newly engineered long‑throw driver. The cone is a rigid, lightweight paper design with a proprietary coating to increase stiffness and damping without adding mass. A heavy‑duty die‑cast chassis, oversized high‑roll surround and high‑excursion motor system allow substantial linear movement while maintaining stability. A large‑diameter voice coil improves thermal efficiency and power handling, while an aluminium shorting ring enhances linearity and reduces distortion.
Wharfedale says this combination delivers bass with greater definition and rhythmic accuracy.
All four Nova subwoofers use a downward‑firing, mass‑loaded Auxiliary Bass Radiator. The ABR works alongside the active driver to extend low‑frequency output without relying on a reflex port, avoiding turbulence, compression and unwanted resonance. Each model’s acoustic loading is individually tuned to its cabinet volume, driver size and amplifier configuration.
Amplification comes from a high‑current Class D design delivering between 200W and 360W depending on model, with up to 80V peak output.
Available in a matt black finish, retail pricing is set at £799 for the Nova 8, £899 for the Nova 10, £1,099 for the Nova 12 and £1,299 for the Nova 15.
