System Audio Silverback 1 reimagines wireless audio

Denmark-based System Audio has introduced the Silverback 1, a WiSA connected smart music system.

Winner of EISA’s On-Wall Speaker of the Year 2023-24, and unveiled at UK Hi-Fi Show Live 2023. the Silverback 1 system comprising a pair of A4-sized active speakers, and is designed to work with company’s compact Stereo Hub WiSA transmitter and control centre.

The wireless speaker is capable of delivering wireless audio up to 24/192 resolution from any source, including network players, PCs, CD players, games consoles, turntables and TVs.

Designed for on-wall or bookshelf operation, each two-way Silverback 1 active speaker features a specially designed 5.5-inch woofer and waveguided 1-inch soft dome tweeter, with twin 80W power amplifiers within a white or black satin cabinet, which measures31 x 32.5 x 13.5cm.

Silverback 1s will work wirelessly with any WiSA-enabled device but are intended to partner with System Audio’s super compact Stereo Hub (which has a footprint of 4.1 x 17 x 10cm) and Remote Control. Roon Ready, the Stereo Hub supports Google Chromecast, Apple Airplay 2, DLNA UpNP and Spotify Connect built in. In addition to Bluetooth streaming, there are physical connections for USB Audio, HDMI with ARC, optical and coaxial digital audio inputs, and two analogue inputs.

Speaker setup and room correction are via System Audio’s ‘SA Cockpit’ app. Power output is rated at 2 x 80W.

Integrators should note that System Audio’s new Surround Hub will also allow the Silverback 1s, with other Silverback speakers, to be part of a WiSA-enabled Dolby Atmos home cinema system, with up to 8 channels of 24/96 resolution audio.

A pair of System Audio Silverback 1s retail for £1799. The Stereo Hub and remote control is £399. The system is distributed through Karma AV.
