Boasting a 15-inch driver, dual monoblock amplifier and 295MHz Analog Devices DSP, SVS has launched its 5000 R|Evolution Series subwoofers in the UK. The two new models extend the technology platform previously developed for the brand’s flagship 17-Ultra R Evolution subwoofers.

The SB-5000 (pictured above) is a sealed cabinet design, while the PB-5000 utilises a ported cabinet.

For the 15-inch driver, SVS has designed a dual, flat, edge-wound three-inch voice coil to ensure stable transfer of electromagnetic current from the dual-mono amplifier to the 21kg toroidal ferrite magnet motor, producing high output with exacting control. Copper-clad aluminium voice coil wire combines the best properties of both elements, says the manufacturer, yielding ideal thermal capacity and magnetic field strength within the motor.

The models have been designed to handle high volumes while retaining subtle sonic detail. The proprietary SVS design features a long-throw parabolic NBR rubber surround for extreme excursion, sound pressure levels, and longevity. A lightweight and rigid glass-fibre laminated cone is said to move massive amounts of air.

Maximising the driver’s potential is a first-ever 2,000 watts RMS, 5,000+ watts peak dual mono-block STA-2000D Class-D amplifier. Each amplifier powers one of the dual voice coils. Eight 60-amp 200-volt MOSFETs deliver enough power to ensure peak performance with the most demanding content, with the benefit of Class D efficiency.

SVS designers have developed an equally capable power supply involving an onboard AC line conditioner with power factor correction, which stabilises the incoming voltage, corrects waveform distortions, and eliminates electromagnetic and radio interference. By doing so, it continuously optimises signal quality while ensuring the subwoofers remain impervious to voltage fluctuations.

The 295MHz Analog Devices DSP manages every function of the amplifier to shape in-room response and stabilise AC voltage delivery, while managing a multi-point thermal and current monitoring system for optimal performance and efficiency. Advanced digital audio processing and DACs with 120 dB Signal-to-Noise Ratio promise greater headroom, lower noise, and acoustic linearity.

Calibration of the 5000 R Evolution series is managed via a partnering app. The SVS app features controls for volume, low pass filter, phase, polarity, six parametric equalisers, room gain compensation, port tuning (PB-5000 R Evolution only), power management settings, and more. There are also three memory presets for fast system adjustments to match listening preferences.

The SB-5000 measures 465 x 453 x 495mm (H/W/D). The PB-5000 is slightly larger at 595 x 520 x 727mm.

The SB-5000 R|Evolution Black Ash retails for £2,500, with Black Gloss at £2,600. The PB-5000 R|Evolution Black Ash is priced at £3,150, with the Black Gloss model at £3,250.
