Sony has expanded its BRAVIA Theatre audio lineup, and unveiled new screens at the more affordable end of its UHD range.
The new BRAVIA Theatre line-up centres on two soundbars, the BRAVIA Theatre Bar 7 and BRAVIA Theatre Bar 5, plus optional subwoofers and rear speakers to extend system performance.
Ease of use is a key part of the BRAVIA Theatre Bar 7’s appeal. This single-unit is designed to deliver a wide, immersive soundfield without additional speakers.
It incorporates nine drivers, including dedicated up-firing and side-firing units, for height and lateral sound dispersion. Sony’s 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology is used to create virtual surround channels, generating a multi-dimensional audio field from a single enclosure.
Room calibration can be used to optimise performance, while optional expansion with external subwoofers and rear speakers allows for a more traditional surround configuration.
Positioned as a budget option, the BRAVIA Theatre Bar 5 adopts a 3.1-channel configuration and includes a wireless subwoofer.
It features Sony’s S-Force PRO Front Surround, Vertical Surround Engine and up-mixing technologies to simulate a three-dimensional soundstage. The focus here is on delivering clear dialogue and consistent bass performance, with a balance suited to everyday TV and film viewing, says the company.
Both models support Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.
However, if you want to boost performance, Sony has options, including optional subwoofers and wireless rear speakers.
The BRAVIA Theatre Sub 9 features dual 200mm drivers in a vibration-cancelling configuration, designed to reduce distortion while delivering extended low-frequency output. The opposing driver arrangement helps maintain cabinet stability at higher volumes.
The smaller BRAVIA Theatre Sub 8 uses a single 200mm driver, when space is more of a concern.
Both support dual subwoofer operation, allowing installers to configure more balanced bass distribution in larger rooms.
For full sonic immersion, Sony offers optional BRAVIA Theatre Rear 9 speakers. These incorporate 80mm up-firing drivers and work with 360 Spatial Sound Mapping to create additional phantom channels, extending the perceived soundfield beyond the physical speaker layout.
When it comes to TV, Sony has detailed two new models.
The BRAVIA 3 II is a mid-ranger, offering screen sizes up to 100-inches. The good news is that for the first time, Sony is offering 4K 120Hz support across all four HDMI inputs, increasing its appeal as a media room screen. But don’t get too excited. There are currently no plans to sell the BRAVIA 3 II in the UK.
However we will see the budget BRAVIA 2 II in the UK. This budget model will be available in sizes from 43- to 75-inches, and like its stablemates, runs Google TV.
The BRAVIA Theatre Bar 7, Bar 5, Sub 9, Sub 8 and Rear 9 are available to preorder now. The BRAVIA 2 II TV is scheduled for pre-order from May 13 2026.
