Sony has unveiled a new BVM-series Trimaster HX reference monitor with new panel technology for improved brightness, and an optional fast pixel response mode for reduce motion blur.
Due on sale in November and on display in prototype form at NAB 2023 this week, the BVM-HX3110 is a 30.5-inch 4k HDR professional monitor designed for critical evaluation, live production, colour grading, and post-production.
It utilises a Sony-designed dual layer anti-reflection LCD panel with proprietary signal processing, and is able to support a higher peak luminance of up to 4000 nits (cd/m²) without compromising black level performance.
This new addition to the brand’s BVM-series also provides a wider viewing angle, as well as standard IP interface for SMPTE ST2110 signals, to work within Sony’s Networked Live ecosystem.
The BVM-HX310 will remain available as a companion model to the BVM-HX3110, offering consistency in colour reproduction, gamma curve and operation.
Features include a Waveform Monitor/Vector Scope (WF/VS), false colour, focus assist, closed captioning, 3D LUT processing, and quad and side-by-side viewing modes. In addition to fast pixel response, other benefits include support for JPEG-XS as well as Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) through optional licences. Optional tools include HDR/SDR conversion and a user 3D LUT signal-output.
“Content creators are always seeking tools that help to accurately match and represent their creative vision and the BVM-HX3110 does just that,” said Claire Lam, Category Head of Network Camera and Professional Monitors, Sony Europe. “We continue to act on customers’ feedback, which is why this new model offers a host of new features including an IP interface for enhanced flexibility. And of course, in keeping with Sony’s monitor design philosophy, its colour matches with our most popular professional monitors.”
The BVM-HX3110 embraces the same colour gamut as Sony’s other monitors, including the BVM-HX310, and PVM-X and LMD-A series monitors. This also includes the recently-announced LMD-A180, an 18.4 inch HD HDR high grade picture monitor with a wide colour gamut, for on-set monitoring. The LMD-A180 is planned to come to market in the fall of 2023.
