Sony has announced the expansion of its professional display line-up with the launch of the Crystal LED CAPRI series, a line of high-brightness LED walls aimed squarely at the growing virtual production and staging sectors.
Designed to support a broad range of use cases, from film and broadcast to corporate events and rentals, the CAPRI series promises professional-grade image quality at a more accessible price point.
The new models, ZRD-VS25FB and ZRD-VS25FM, feature a 2.5mm pixel pitch and a maximum brightness of 1,500 cd/m², bringing them in line with Sony’s flagship VERONA series in terms of luminance. Both panels boast refresh rates up to 7,680Hz, with support for over 98 per cent of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. Anti-reflection capabilities have also been integrated, helping mitigate lighting interference on set.
Sony is emphasising ease of integration. The CAPRI series is fully compatible with both Brompton’s Tessera SX40 and Megapixel’s HELIOS controllers.
A 1:1 cabinet design with locating pins and a lever locking mechanism allows for tool-free assembly and alignment, making CAPRI suited to temporary or reconfigurable studio installations. Panels can be installed stacked, hung, or curved.
Rear serviceable LED blocks with status indicators allow engineers to quickly identify and replace faulty modules, helping to maximise uptime and minimise disruption.
Crucially, CAPRI is fully integrated into Sony’s broader virtual production ecosystem, including camera systems, tracking technologies, and pre-visualisation tools. It supports the company’s Virtual Production Tool Set, which includes tools such as Color Calibrator and the Camera and Display Plugin. A forthcoming update to the suite will add real-time off-axis colour shift compensation.
Sebastian Leske, Head of Business Development at Sony Europe, says the CAPRI series demonstrates Sony’s commitment to broadening access to professional-grade virtual production technology: “We’ve broadened our lineup to offer more cost-conscious choices, which expand the market in support of high-quality virtual production at every level and ensure the growth of Sony’s distinctive virtual production ecosystem.”
The Sony Crystal LED CAPRI series is expected to be available this winter.
