Sony has launched the HT-S2000, an affordable 3.1 Dolby Atmos compatible soundbar.
Also compatible with DTS:X, the new model relies on Sony’s Vertical Surround Engine and S-Force PRO Front Surround technology to expand its soundfield. The Vertical surround engine is designed to place audio above the listening position, while S-Force Pro directs sound to the side.
A newly developed up mixer adds dimensionality to stereo content, while a dedicated centre speaker ensures clear dialogue. The up-mixer works with streamed or Bluetooth two-channel content. Lower frequencies are handled by built-in dual subwoofers.
Sony says its onboard analyser can separate and process individual audio components (be they voices, sound effects or musical instruments), to create a better immersive experience.
The soundbar's forward facing array utilise Sony’s X-balanced Speaker units said to achieve louder sound pressure with less distortion than conventional drivers.
Installation and set-up is via Sony’s new Home Entertainment Connect app, which also offers volume and sound field control.
The HT-S2000 can be upgraded with an optional wireless subwoofer (SA-SW5 or SA-SW3), and wireless rear speakers (SA-RS3S), to create a full-blown home cinema system.
Shipping in June, the HT-S2000 sells for £449 (€499).
