Sony has re-entered the AV amplifier market in the UK, with the launch of the TA-AN1000, a 7.2, 4k 120Hz (and 8k) capable amplifier with native support for 360 Spatial Sound mapping. Naturally, the TA-AN1000 also works with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.
360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology has previously been seen on the company’s soundbars and active speakers. It can create an immersive listening experience by creating multiple phantom speakers, making it ideal for media rooms and challenging AV installations.
The amplifier utilises the positional information measured by Sony’s proprietary Digital Cinema Auto Calibration IX (D.C.A.C. IX) system. This works alongside Auto Phase Matching which aligns the phase of different speakers. It allows integrators to compensate for difficult speaker placement, delay or phase shift.
HDR provision covers HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision. The TA-AN1000 also has IMAX Enhanced certification. There are six HDMI inputs and two outputs. Power output is rated at 85W with all channels driven.
Gamers are supported with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) via HDMI 2.1. PlayStation 5 owners will benefit from Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode, when used in conjunction with a compatible Bravia TV.
Meanwhile, Hi-Fi enthusiasts will appreciate support for DSD (Direct Stream Digital) native playback, so no conversion required.
Features include Spotify Connect, Chromecast, Apple Airplay 2 and Works with Sonos, as well as Acoustic Centre Sync, for use with relevant Sony TVs.
The home cinema amplifier can connect wirelessly to Sony’s optional speakers including the wireless rear speakers SA-RS5 and SA-RS3S and wireless subwoofers SA-SW5 and SA-SW3.
The TA-AN100 will be available from June, and will retail for £999.
