Sky Glass and Sky Stream are about to get even smarter with a wave of new updates rolling out through Entertainment OS. With over 500 firmware updates since the launch of Sky Glass, these enhancements aim to make it easier than ever for customers to access and enjoy content.
Inside CI had an opportunity to delve into the latest improvements, at an exclusive Sky HQ briefing, and discovered there’s good news for gamers and sports fans on the cards.
The latest iteration of Entertainment OS, v1.2, introduces several exciting features designed to cater for more personalised viewing preferences. From tailored recommendations, delivered via personalised genre rails, to the addition of a Cast and Crew rail, discovering new content should become a lot more intuitive.
Also welcome is the introduction of voice-controlled fast forward and rewind functionality.
Looking ahead, Entertainment OS 1.3, which arrives in May, will introduce a long awaited Auto Game Mode on Sky Glass, providing a more responsive gaming experience through Auto Low Latency (ALLM). Sky tells us this will bring a 70 per cent improvement in input lag.
Sports enthusiasts can also look forward to reduced latency on live sports coverage from the Sky Sports Main Event channel. Reduced latency broadcasting will come to other Sky Sports channels later in the year.
Sky Live, the optional camera upgrade for Sky Glass, is also getting an influx of new interactive games. We had a preview of Basketball Knockout and Tennis Smash: Racketville, which will undoubtedly prove popular with a family audience.
Sky also confirmed that it’s bringing subtitles to all Ultra HD on demand content by the end of the summer, and adding Audio Description to On Demand content.
The 55-inch Sky Glass was the best selling TV in the UK, for 2023.
