An update to Sky Glass, Sky’s dish-free premium Pay TV 4k QLED screen proposition, has introduced a raft of new features. New functionality sees YouTube being integrated into voice search, and the introduction of Sky Sports Box Office.
Sky says the updates are the start of a series of rolling firmware updates to the streaming Pay TV platform.
The introduction of Sky Sports Box Office will be a boon to fight fans, as it arrives just in time for the eagerly anticipated Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua rematch on August 20.
Voice control has always been integral to Sky Glass, and now YouTube and Netflix are searchable by voice directly from the Sky Glass UI. Say “Hello Sky, Nightwish on YouTube” and you’ll be taken straight to search results featuring the rock band.
Sky says its voice update will be coming to more apps soon.
The sign-in process for BBC VoD has also been simplified. You now only need to log in once, meaning if you sign into BBC Sounds or BBC iPlayer you’ll be automatically signed into the other.
Playlist functionality has been tweaked, allowing viewers to use the ‘+’ button to remove content they no longer need. The channel choice has also been expanded, with the addition of nine new channels: Colors HD, Colors Rishtey, Colors Gujrati, Bloomberg, NBC News Now, GB News, TalkTV, Zee TV, and Zee Cinema.
