Sky has begun broadcasting live sports in UHD and HDR for the first time. Commencing with the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Sky Q subscribers will be able to watch over 200 hours of live action over the Olympic Games on a dedicated Eurosport 4K channel in Ultra HD and HDR, via the red button.

There are also seven Olympic specific Eurosport pop-up channels in HD. Coverage of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 on Sky Q is spread across BBC, Eurosport and discovery+.

The broadcaster has also activated “Olympics” voice commands for the Sky Q voice remote. When requested, the platform opens up a variety of Olympic content, including ‘Today at the Olympics’, ‘Olympics in Ultra HD and HDR’, documentaries and podcasts.

To coincide, there’s also the option to sign-up to discovery+, the streaming home of the Olympics, for 12 months at no extra cost. This delivers 55 live event feeds, and thousands of hours of live coverage and on-demand action – for more, say “get discovery plus” into the voice remote.

Sky is extending its HDR coverage to football too, with live Premier League matches in Ultra HD with HDR too. The first fixture takes place August 13.

Live sport joins the wide collection of HDR on-demand TV and movies available on Sky Q, including Sky Nature documentaries, Sky Originals, Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video.

HDR is included as standard for those with a Sky UHD subscription.
