A QD-OLED flagship TV with Glare Free technology, transparent display prototypes, and powerful new 8k processor have been unveiled by Samsung at CES 2024.
Declaring 2024 as the beginning of the AI era, the brand showed off a next-generation AI processor, the NQ8 AI Gen3. Available on Its incoming Neo QLED 8k QN900D Neo QLED , the NQ8 AI Gen3 has a neural processing unit said to be twice as fast as that of its predecessor. The amount of neural networks has also increased eightfold from 64 to 512, allowing everything on screen to be displayed in blistering detail.
New features from the silicon include 8k AI Upscaling Pro, for enhanced 8K upscaling, sharpening low resolution content so that it is displayed in ultra-high resolution. Inside CI saw demonstrations of upscaled HD content that were particularly impressive.
There’s also AI Motion Enhancer Pro, which removes motion artefacts typically seen on sports coverage. The feature automatically detects the sport type and uses deep learning to apply the proper ball detection model.
The new processor also introduces Real Depth Enhancer Pro, which adds detail to fast-moving scenes using AI to better control mini LEDs. It works by detecting the part of a scene that the human eye would naturally focus on and bringing it to the foreground.
The new screen features an Infinity Air design, just 12.9mm in depth.
Samsung has also shown off a transparent version of its Micro LED technology. The screen, which looks like a piece of transparent glass, utilises an extremely small MICRO LED chip and precision manufacturing process that eliminates seams and light refraction. Samsung is suggesting this has applications in both residential and commercial markets.
On the OLED front, the brand is introducing a 77-inch S95D, 20 per cent brighter, than previous models,
New for the S95 OLED this year is OLED Glare Free technology, a matte screen treatment that significantly reduces reflections from ambient light sources. Glare Free is made possible thanks to a new, specialised hard-coating layer and surface coating pattern.
The S95D also features high refresh rates of up to 144Hz. Samsung also introduced the S90D OLED in various sizes, from 48- to 83-inches.
Finally, Samsung’s Tizen OS is also getting an update for 2024, with the introduction of user profiles for for customised recommendations. Samsung TV Plus is getting an updated user interface with an overview of available content.
