Smart streaming platform Roku is breaking away from sticks and TVs, and moving into the projection market.
Initially launching with Aurzen and Sharp, the new Roku TV Smart Projectors will combine simple set-up projection with the Roku OS, giving consumers access to streaming content and services, including VOD, live TV, out of the box.
“Projectors have long promised a cinematic experience, but often they’ve lacked the simplicity and intelligence consumers expect,” said Richard Halton, Country Manager, Roku UK. “With Roku TV Smart Projectors, we’re bringing the seamless streaming experience Roku users know and love to an exciting new form factor, making big-screen entertainment more accessible than ever.”
Very much aimed at the casual market keen on supersizing their viewing Both the Aurzen D1R and Sharp H272 are 1080p models. They offer a maximum brightness of 280 and 200 ANSI lumens respectively, and sport a 3W integrated speaker.
The new models lack Freely, but do offer free linear TV entertainment in the form of The Roku Channel, which offers 50+ FAST channels.
Both promise full integration with the Roku mobile app, including voice controls, and remote functionality. There’s also support for Apple AirPlay.
Other features include Bluetooth connectivity for pairing wireless speakers, soundbars, and subwoofers, as well as a Bluetooth headphone mode for private listening.
Aurzen currently offers a range of low cost projectors built around the Google TV OS.
The Aurzen Roku TV Smart Projector will be available from June on Amazon, with the Sharp Roku TV Smart Projector available from June at Asda, and from July at Tesco. Prices are TBC.
