Q Acoustics has launched a new subwoofer line-up designed to inject fresh low end energy into the home cinema space. The Q SUB Series spans three models, each tailored to different room sizes and system needs.
The Q SUB80, the most compact of the trio, features an 8-inch driver and is designed to deliver punchy low frequencies in smaller rooms or as part of a more modest speaker system. For mid-sized rooms, the Q SUB100 steps up with a 10-inch driver for greater low-frequency extension. Meanwhile, the Q SUB120, with a 12-inch driver, promises the most powerful performance in the range, making it well-suited to larger spaces or higher-output systems.
Each model is housed in a sealed, infinite baffle cabinet designed to deliver tight, controlled bass, with flexibility for placement close to walls or furniture. This versatility makes the Q SUB series a practical choice for a variety of room layouts, a key consideration for real-world installation projects.
All three models feature advanced Digital Signal Processing (DSP), able to provide both automatic source detection and intelligent gain adjustment.
A low pass filter with adjustable frequency (40Hz to 250Hz) also enables precise matching to partnering speakers, whether part of a Q Acoustics system or a third-party setup. This flexibility is further enhanced by dual phase controls (0°/180°) and fine delay adjustments, helping integrators ensure accurate time alignment with main speakers, even in challenging room placements.
The custom amplifier module, designed specifically for the Q SUB range, delivers up to 300W continuous and 600W peak power. It features four digital power amplifier stages in a parallel bridge-tied load (PBTL) configuration, which is said to enhance efficiency, minimise heat build-up, and improve damping for tighter bass control.
To support the acoustic performance, each enclosure is crafted from 18mm high-density MDF, with a double-thickness 36mm baffle for improved rigidity. Inside, Dart-bracing technology provides mechanical grounding for the drive unit, while reducing unwanted resonance.
The drive units themselves feature heavy-duty steel chassis, paper cones, and rubber surrounds, with voice coils sized appropriately for each model: 38mm for the Q SUB80 and Q SUB100, and 50mm for the Q SUB120. An aluminium demodulation ring reduces inductance-related distortion, preserving clarity even under demanding conditions.
Practicality is also considered, with adjustable locking spikes and spike cups provided for floor levelling, and a choice of two finishes, Satin Black with black grille or Satin White with grey grille.
Recognising the importance of system flexibility, Q Acoustics has included several installer-focused features across the range. These include Automatic signal sensing for power management, with standby activation after 20 minutes of inactivity; a 12V trigger input for integration with AV receivers or smart home systems, and flexible input options, with DSP automatically identifying the signal type and adjusting gain accordingly.
The Q Sub80 (with 8-inch driver and 150W amplifier), the Q Sub100 (with 10-inch driver and 200W amplifier) and Q Sub200 with 12-inch driver and 300W amp), retail for £599 (€749 / $899), £699 (€875 / $1,049), and £799 (€999 / $1,199) respectively.
