British audio specialist Q Acoustics hopes to fill a gap in the Hi-FI market with the launch of its M40 powered micro-tower wireless audio system. Building on the brand’s M20 platform, the new model combines a room-friendly form factor with full-scale, high resolution sound.
Standing a compact 71 cm tall, the M40 is available in Black, White, and Walnut finishes, so should integrate into any interior space.
Not short on grunt, it employs 2 x 100 watts of Class D amplification, and supports Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD compatibility, for high resolution 24bit/48kHz wireless streaming.
Wired connectivity includes a digital optical audio input, and can accommodate a turntable with a built-in preamp. There's also a USB input for computer connection for 24bit/192kHz file playback.
The towers adopt the acclaimed mid/bass C3 (pronounced ‘C cubed’) Continuous Curved Cone 125mm driver first introduced in the recent 5000 passive loudspeaker series. These are partnered with a decoupled 22mm tweeter, while Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser technology is used to reduce unwanted standing waves inside the cabinet.
Installation is said to be quick and easy, with options to designate the powered speaker as left or right and an EQ switch to tailor audio performance based on placement, so you can position the M40 in a corner, against a wall or stand in free space.
A novel grille design minimises sound disruption patterns, enhancing the overall sonic performance. By fixing the grille to the baffle, rather than be removable, allows for added strength, says the company. The result minimises unwanted sound dispersion patterns, and reduces reflections. The sculptured cabinet is a 2-way reflex ported design, with Point to Point internal bracing.
The M40 micro tower system retails for £749 (€899 / $999).
