British audio specialist Q Acoustics has launched the 5050 floorstanding loudspeaker, the latest addition to its 5000 stereo and home cinema loudspeaker series.
Joining the 5010 bookshelf, 5020 standmount, 5040 floorstander, and the 5090 centre-channel, the new tower draws inspiration from Q Acoustics' flagship Concept range, inheriting its cutting-edge cabinet and driver technologies.
The model also features the brand’s C3 Continuous Curved Cone design mid/bass driver, facilitating smoother high-frequency integration with the tweeter and improved bass dynamics. Substantial magnets are coupled to large voice coils to increase motor strength, resulting in a 50 per cent increase in power handling.
Drawing on the tweeter design principle found in the newest Concept series, the high frequency driver unit is hermetically sealed and mechanically isolated from the baffle to prevent internal pressure modulations from within the cabinet and adjacent mid/bass driver. The inner chamber is also vented for lower distortion.
The 5050 employs the same cabinet and driver innovations found across the entire 5000 series, such as Point-2-Point (P2P) bracing and Helmholtz Pressure Equalizers (HPE) tube technology, for a focused stereo image and wider soundstage.
There's certainly a lot of impressive technology at work here - but perhaps the best reason to buy a pair of 5050 loudspeakers are the aesthetics. This speaker is just gorgeous.
Available in four finishes: Satin Black, Satin White, Santos Rosewood, and Holme Oak, the Q Acoustics 5050 is priced at £1,299 (€1,699/$1,999) a pair.
