Philips will debut new OLED-EX panel technology on its upcoming OLED807, The new model, which will ship in 48-, 55-, 65- and 77- screen sizes, boasts an increase in light output of 30 per cent when compared to a standard 2021 OLED panel. OLED-EX replaces hydrogen-based compounds within its construction with deuterium, said to more efficient and stable.
The new screen will also introduce a host of improved AI picture enhancements as part of its 6th Gen P5 AI image engine. Key amongst these will be Ambience Intelligence, which will use the set’s light sensor to adjust brightness, gamma and colour in real time, and compensate for ambient lighting conditions in the viewing room.
Ambiance Intelligence works on any source, both SDR and HDR, including Dolby Vision and HDR10. The new P5 AI silicon will also allow viewers to prioritise Eye Care, Dark Detail Optimization or Colour Temperature Optimization options.
Buyers can also expect to see changes to Ambilight, with a new iteration said to offer more precise colour and light matching.
Philips continues to be one of the few TV makers to support all HDR options, including Dolby Vision, HLG, HDR10 and HDR10+ and HDR10+ Adaptive. 2022 will see the adoption of IMAX Enhanced support.
IMAX Enhanced movies use IMAX Digital Media Remastering technology (DMR) to reproduce the sharpest 4K images; now DMR and Philips 6th Gen P5 AI will work together to optimize that content.
Offering more choice to film enthusiasts, the OLED807 will also increase the number of film modes, from two to seven, and has renamed its Vivid picture preset Crystal Clear, in the process slightly dialling back colour oversaturation but retaining its crowd-pleasing punch.
Gaming looks certain to play a key part in any new AV system this year. Philips is the latest brand to introduce a dedicated Game Bar interface, for quick access to picture and sound settings. The OLED807 features HDMI 2.1 on two inputs, with VRR support for 4K from 40Hz to120Hz at a full bandwidth of 48Gbps, FreeSync Premium and G-SYNC compatibility, plus Auto Game and Auto-Low-Latency modes, and gaming presets for different game genres.
The OLED807 also features an upgraded 70W 2.1 audio system. The Smart platform of choice will be Android 11, with both Google Assistant and Works with Alexa compatibility. Price and release date have yet to be confirmed.
