If you've got a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, Panasonic has good news. The company has released a firmware update (v3.124) to support full 4k2k resolution at 120Hz with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and HDR10 on its higher-end 2021 screens. The same new firmware also supports Dolby Vision VRR up to 60Hz.

The update adds a new 4K120Hz Bypass Mode option in the picture settings menu. When this option is activated, it enables 4k2k VRR by bypassing various picture processing (similar in many respects to Panasonic’s Pure Direct mode).

The move follows a pledge made to gamers earlier this year, and is good news for integrators specifying media rooms with Panasonic screens.

The new firmware update covers all 2021 models which support HDMI2.1. This includes all JZ OLED models (JZ2000, JZ1500, JZ1000 and JZ980), and JX940 LED screen and above.
