Onkyo has announced a return to the home cinema stage, with the TX-RZ70 - a flagship 11.2, 140-watt-per-channel AV receiver. The model boasts THX Certification, and a Klipsch Optimized Mode for peak performance with compatible hi-fi speakers. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X are standard, but we’re promised an Auro 3D firmware update June 2023. It’s also IMAX Enhanced certified.
The model boasts HDMI 2.1 8k capable HDMIs (even inputs and three outputs, with eARC), plus 32-bit ESS Sabre DACs for high fidelity audio.
Niceties include Dirac Live Room Correction with an optional upgrade to Dirac Live Bass Control, which uses machine learning and AI to determine ithe deal settings for any room layout, and Bluetooth with aptX, for sharing audio to Bluetooth headphones.
Voice control and smart home integrations comes via Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri.
The AVR also has Roon Ready certification, although you’ll have to wait until September 2023 before you can use the receiver to browse your Roon libraries.
Onkyo has long been absent from the home audio scene. Premium Audio Company (PAC) purchased the Onkyo brand in 2021 but we’re told this new iteration retains the engineering expertise at its Technology Center in Osaka. The TX-RZ70 is one of the first projects of the PAC product development team in collaboration with the existing Onkyo engineering team.
The Onkyo TX-RZ70 will sell for £3,099 (€3299). Distribution is via Henley Audio.
