Fresh-faced streaming audio outfit WiiM has announced its first amplifier, the WiiM Amp. Able to deliver hi-res and lossless audio, alongside multiroom functionality, this diminutive yet powerful gadget can be used to update legacy music systems, or form the basis of a standalone premium streaming audio solution.
The WiiM Amp connects to passive speakers, a home theatre system or vintage record player (with optional phono stage), with audio streamed directly from a preferred music app or by voice commands.
There’s support for Apple AirPlay 2 with Siri, Google Chromecast, and Alexa Music Cast. It’s also DNLA compliant.
This Class-D amplifier delivers 60 Watts per channel (into 8 ohms). Connectivity comprises stereo analogue inputs, a digital optical port, HDMI ARC and Ethernet, to support dual band Wi-Fi 5. Audio output is up to 192 kHz/ 24-bit, courtesy of an ESS Sabre premium DAC, depending on the audio source.
The amplifier uses Bluetooth 5.0 and can double as a USB host for storage, allowing it to function as a media server for other WiiM smart devices.
The Wiim Amp even offers automatic bass management when paired with an external subwoofer, via its sub output.
System tuning comes through EQ and Parametric EQ options. There are 24 pre-set EQ settings, with a 10-band graphic EQ adjustable to every audio source, be it line-in, Bluetooth, or network. A 4-band parametric EQ offers more granular adjustments.
The manufacturer says it is expecting Roon Ready certification soon.
"We've dedicated ourselves to designing products that elevate the music streaming experience, and the WiiM Amp is the first step in our expanded line-up," said Dr Lifeng Zhao, CEO of WiiM. "With valuable user feedback and our team's commitment to superior audio quality, the WiiM Amp delivers audiophile-grade sound and a seamless experience for music enthusiasts to unlock a world of musical possibilities."
The WiiM Amp retails for £299 ($299 / €349). Distribution is via Henley Audio.
