PMC has unveiled the Prophecy series, a line of five home audio speakers that introduce a new design aesthetic for the brand, as well as a variety of audio enhancing technologies.
The five models in the range are the Prophecy1, a two-way standmount design; the slimline two-way Prophecy5 floorstander; three-way Prophecy7 and flagship Prophecy9 tower, which features dual bass drivers. There’s also a matching centre speaker for home cinema duties, the ProphecyC.
The series is available in Walnut, Mediterranean Oak and Black, with veneers obtained from sustainable sources. Grilles are held in place using concealed magnets and have a bespoke open-weave, textured fabric.
The Prophecy series features a radical enhancement to the company’s Laminair technology which works in tandem with the Advanced Transmission Line (ATL). The brand’s LaminairX material has undergone a radical redesign, negating turbulence, and reducing resistance and harmonic distortion by up to 3dB. The result is better bass with precision timing and outstanding dynamic range.
A newly developed aerodynamic vent is also incorporated into the heavy extruded aluminium base of the cabinet, which also serves to ground the speaker for even better control.
Interestingly, the long-throw bass drive units have been developed specifically for this range, matched to the ATL, for a linear design, which deliver the deepest frequencies, without imparting any colouration on the midrange.
The drivers utilise an ultra-light but rigid, mica-filled cone material, while the pro-studio honed 26mm soft-dome tweeter features a specially designed dispersion grille that assists with ultra-controlled directivity up to 180 degrees.
The three-way models incorporate a 55mm soft dome mid-range, as used in PMC’s professional studio models and the Ci series. Its distinctive ‘n-compass’ sculptured profile surrounds the high-frequency and midrange drivers, enhancing their response, and integration so they act as one unit with an ultra-wide and stable image.
The drive units are connected via PMC’s high-order, steep roll-off crossover design. A self proclaimed military-grade circuit board boasts ultra-thick copper tracks and gold through plating to ensure non-inhibited current flow and greater reliability. Careful component selection, precision matching and optimised positioning provide low component interaction and low colouration, says the brand. The steep filter slopes ensure that each drive unit works within its optimum range and generous off-axis response for a wide listening window.
Inside CI was invited to an exclusive preview of the new range at Wired Masters, a mixing and mastering studio in London which uses PMC’s professional models. Not only is the new collection artfully finished, but they’re outstanding performers too. A pair of bookshelf Prophecy1 models offered a tonality of presentation that was remarkably similar to their professional siblings, while the floorstanders offered increasing mid-range presence and bass heft. The flagship Prophecy9 is a stunning listen which far outperforms its cabinet size.
PMC has also shifted to all cardboard packaging for the lineup, moving away from polystyrene; cloth bags are also used instead of plastic.
Available globally from February 1 2025, the range are priced as follows:
Prophecy1 £2,875 (€3,505)
Prophecy5 £4,575 (€5,585)
Prophecy7 £6,575 (€7,995)
Prophecy9 £8,975 (€10,945)
ProphecyC £2,275 (€2,775)
