Optoma has unveiled a new 4k laser projector for residential use. Retailing for £2,499, the UHZ50 boasts 3,000 lumens brightness and a 2,500,000:1 contrast ratio. It's pitched at both movie fans and gamers - an Enhanced Gaming mode claims a 16.7ms response time in 4K at 60Hz, and 4ms in 1080P at 240Hz.
The UHZ50 is built around a single chip Texas Instruments DLP solution, coupled to Optoma’s DuraCore laser technology. Optoma suggests the laser light engine will offer 30,000 hours of maintenance-free use.
The model is also HDR10 compatible, and promises 100 per cent of Rec. 709, plus DCI-P3 Wide Colour Gamut downscaling. Features include support for four device sharing over 5G, using the Optoma Creative Cast app. It also has a built-in 2 x 10W sound system.
Reflecting its Pro AV heritage, the model has warping capabilities, four corner correction, 1.3X zoom, with keystone and vertical lens shift. The model also features three HDMI 2.0 inputs, with eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) support, as well as two USB ports for media playback. Operating noise claims to be a quiet 25dB.
Billy Harrison, Product Manager at Optoma, said: “We are bringing true 4k laser technology home to even more consumers by reducing overall costs without compromising the quality of their personal home entertainment experiences. Consumers are seeking more home entertainment and content options that fit their unique needs whether they’re gamers, streaming movies or viewing personal photos.”
