Introducing the McIntosh DS200 Streaming DAC, the latest addition to the American luxury audio brand’s Hi-Fi separates portfolio. Featuring a cutting-edge 32-bit, 8-channel Quad Balanced DAC, along with a variety of built-in casting technologies, the DS200 is designed to be partnered with McIntosh power amplifiers and preamplifiers, and is intended for those looking to add a high-end streaming component to complete their audio systems.

With seamless support for the likes of Spotify, Apple AirPlay 2, Roon Ready, and TIDAL Connect, the DS200 is certainly more than capable of streaming playlists during gatherings or parties.

It looks good too. Design wise, the D200 is classic McIntosh. There’s a black glass front faceplate, rotary control knobs, iconic illuminated logo, and custom machined aluminum end caps.

It’s equipped with two Wi-Fi antennas and one Bluetooth antenna, as well as an Ethernet port for wired connections, and is compatible with Google Assistant, allowing for voice control of the audio setup when used with a third-party Google Assistant device.

The unit offers extensive digital and analogue connectivity, with eight digital audio inputs, supporting high-resolution digital audio playback, including DSD512 and DXD up to 384kHz via USB, and 24-bit/192kHz via coaxial and optical inputs. The HDMI ARC connection also routes TV audio into the McIntosh sound system, albeit in stereo format.

The DS200 offers both balanced and unbalanced analogue outputs. It’s factory-set in fixed output mode, but users have the option to switch to variable output mode for direct connection to a power amplifier, allowing the DS200 to control volume in a fully digital audio setup.

At the heart of the DS200 is a next-generation Quad Balanced 8-channel, 32-bit Digital-to-Analog Converter, capable of a vast dynamic range and low distortion. As a Roon Ready endpoint, it integrates with the Roon music player, while Roon Tested certification ensures simple setup and friction-free daily use.

Control and integration options comprise a Data IN port, Power Control ports, and RS232. There’s also a conventional remote control supplied.

The DS200 will be available in March through the usual authorised McIntosh dealers, and will retail for £5,890 (€5,990).
