There’s a new streamer in town, and it comes from legendary Hi-Fi brand NAD. The CS1 Endpoint Network Streamer is a compact box that does what it says on the tin, and can be used to bring music streaming services to any existing (non-connected) Hi-Fi system.
Typically minimalist in design, the unit supports all the major casting protocols, including GoogleCast, Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay 2 and Tidal Connect and is equipped with analogue stereo, optical digital and coaxial digital outputs.
There’s built-in Bluetooth and dual-band Wi-Fi , with the option of wired connectivity via a LAN Ethernet port.
Beneath the lid is a differential DAC design, based on Texas Instruments PCM5141, with native support for 24-bit/192kHz high-resolution audio. GoogleCast allows playback up to 24-bit/96kHz resolution, from Cast-enabled apps on smartphones and tablets. Roon subscribers can also stream audio to the CS1 from their personal libraries, and online services.
The NAD CS1 sells for £299 (US$349 /€399), and is available now.
