Simaudio brand Moon has expanded its Compass Collection with two new high performance stereo components: the 461 power amplifier and the 491 network player preamplifier.
Distributed by Renaissance Audio, the new products are designed to operate either as a complementary pairing or as part of larger high-end audio systems. Both models incorporate technologies derived from Moon’s flagship product development programme and are handcrafted in Canada.
The most brawny model yet in the Compass Collection, the 461 stereo power amplifier has been engineered to deliver substantial output while maintaining low distortion and stable operation across a wide variety of loudspeaker loads. Central to its design is Moon’s proprietary MDCA (Moon Distortion-Cancelling Amplifier) architecture, a topology first developed for the company’s flagship North Collection.
According to Moon, the MDCA design significantly reduces distortion while improving overall linearity, helping preserve signal integrity and delivering greater transparency and precision. The amplifier also employs dual MOON Hybrid Power (MHP) supply modules. These proprietary power supplies are intended to improve channel separation, minimise crosstalk and enhance current delivery, particularly when driving more demanding low-impedance loudspeakers.
Designed as the ideal companion to the 461, the new 491 serves as a network player, preamplifier, DAC, phono stage and headphone amplifier in a single chassis. Intended as the central hub of a premium audio system, it combines extensive analogue and digital connectivity with advanced streaming functionality and low-noise circuit design.
At its core is Moon’s MiND 2 streaming platform, supporting UPnP playback, Roon Ready certification, AirPlay and Bluetooth connectivity. Users can access major streaming services including Qobuz, TIDAL, Deezer and Spotify through the Moon MiND Controller app, available for both iOS and Android devices. The platform also supports Qobuz Connect, TIDAL Connect and Spotify Connect for direct streaming control from compatible applications.
Vinyl enthusiasts haven’t been overlooked either. The integrated phono stage accommodates both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, with a range of adjustment options designed to facilitate accurate cartridge matching and system optimisation.
A large colour display provides access to system settings while also presenting album artwork and track information. Day-to-day operation is handled via Moon’s dedicated CRM-4 remote control, a metal handset developed specifically for the Compass Collection.
Commenting on the launch, John Carroll, Managing Director of Renaissance, said the new components represent a complete expression of the Compass Collection philosophy, combining high levels of musical performance with system versatility and a design aesthetic intended to complement a wide range of interior environments.
“As a pairing, the 461 and 491 represent a complete expression of the Compass Collection,” he said. “Together they deliver outstanding musical performance and system flexibility, while also forming a visually striking statement that will look exceptional in any environment, from contemporary interiors to traditional spaces.”
The Moon 461 power amplifier and Moon 491 network player preamplifier will be available in the UK from July, priced at £4,550 ($5000, $6800 CAD, 5200 EUR) and £5,950 ($6500 USD, $8800 CAD, 6800 EUR ) respectively. Both products are covered by Moon’s 10-year warranty.
