Monitor Audio has taken the wraps off an extraordinary new floorstanding loudspeaker, the Hyphn. The brand's new flagship is said to represent the culmination of the company's years of design, engineering, and manufacturing expertise.
The name is a reference to the speaker’s twin-pillar, linked design. The model is available in three luxury finishes, Pure Satin White, Matte Black, and Matte Heritage Green. A pair will cost you £70,000 (€82,500 / $92,500).
Hyphn is based on the Concept 50 prototype and features Monitor Audio's unique 'M-Array' configuration, which combines a single high-frequency transducer with six 2-inch midrange drivers. The result is exceptional soundstage clarity that allows listeners to pinpoint individual instruments and vocals with precision.
The high-frequency transducer boasts the third-generation Micro Pleated Diaphragm III (MPD III) technology, while the midrange drivers feature Rigid Diaphragm Technology III (RDT III) cones. The unique twin pillar design of Hyphn house a pair of powerful 8-inch bass drivers in a force-cancelling configuration, said to reduce vibration force for a tighter, high-impact bass performance.
We’re also promised exceptional detail through the treble and upper midrange. controlled performance across the full frequency spectrum, while the cabinet is constructed from thermoformed, precision-milled mineral and acrylic stone for maximum rigidity.
According to Rob Barford, Chief Executive Officer of Monitor Audio Group, "Hyphn is the most creatively ambitious, technically advanced, and powerful loudspeaker in the history of Monitor Audio Group. It's a definitive demonstration of the capabilities we've developed over our first five decades – and the shape of things to come."
