Monitor Audio has announced the PL-IW 3G, a Platinum Series 3G in-wall loudspeaker equipped with the brand’s latest acoustic innovations, including the high perfromance MPD III High-Frequency Transducer.
The PL-IW 3G is deemed suitable for high-end two-channel stereo applications and home cinemas, where it can be positioned either vertically or horizontally and used as an LCR model or surround rear speaker.
This new architectural addition to the Platinum Series 3G features a new third generation Micro Pleated Diaphragm (MPD III) high-frequency transducer, first developed for the company’s ‘Concept 50’ prototype. The tweeter was unveiled earlier this year as part of its 50th Anniversary celebrations.
MPD III boasts new technology said to reduce distortion and flatten the frequency response. The result, says the brand, is a larger, clearer, and more consistent soundstage.
The PL-IW 3G is housed within an internally braced 25mm MDF and steel box construction, equipped with an adjustable mid/high-frequency driver array, similar to that in its THX Ultra certified Cinergy Theatre series.
The driver configuration comprises dual 6.5-inch bass drivers, single 4-inch midranger and MPD III Transducer, housed within a rotation enclosure for LCR versatility.
The Platinum Series In-Wall 3G (PL-IW 3G) retails for £4,500 and will be available January 2023.
