High-end audio manufacturer Mola Mola has unveiled the Ossetra, a new mono power amplifier that represents the latest development of the company’s Trajectum Class D amplification technology. Availability is via Sound Design Distribution.
The Ossetra is designed to combine high power output with exceptionally low noise and distortion, and is suitable for music systems where control, stability and consistency under load are priorities.
Housed in Mola Mola’s distinctive wave-shaped, half-width (200 x 110 x 355mm w/h/d) chassis, this fully balanced, fully bridged mono power amplifier is rated at 350 watts into 8 ohms, rising to 700 watts into 4 ohms and up to 900 watts into 2 ohms.
At the core of the design is an extensively reworked Trajectum Class D platform. Mola Mola has introduced a newly engineered power supply alongside an all-new discrete Class A input stage and discrete Class A gain stages. According to the company, these changes enable lower noise levels, higher current delivery and improved performance into difficult loudspeaker loads.
The redesigned power supply plays a central role in the Ossetra’s performance. By increasing current availability and improving regulation, Mola Mola says it has been able to reduce noise while enhancing both continuous and peak power delivery. The fully bridged output stage is able to maintain stability across a wide range of loudspeaker impedances, making it suitable for use with demanding, low-sensitivity designs often specified in high-end installations.
The discrete Class A, DC-coupled input stage is closely related to that used in the Mola Mola Makua preamplifier. It presents a high input impedance of 200kΩ to connected sources or preamplifiers, while preventing DC and other unwanted artefacts from reaching the power stage. Shunt regulators are employed to draw current dynamically from the power supply as required across the full audio band, with the aim of improving noise rejection under real-world load conditions.
Balanced and unbalanced inputs are provided, selectable via a switch, alongside a 3.5mm trigger input for system integration. Speaker connections are made via two pairs of Furutech binding posts, bi-wired directly to the amplifier PCB using Kubala-Sosna cabling.
The Mola Mola Ossetra mono power amplifier retails for £7,999.
