Melco has announced the N5-H50, a new addition to its digital music library range. Drawing on its flagship SSD-based N1-S38, the new model features a HDD and simplified feature set.
The N5-H50 shares the N1-S38's design, chassis and casework. It also benefits from the new mainboard developed for the top model.
Components include a low-jitter system clock from NDK, industrial-grade RJ45 connectors, plus SFP Fibre (Small Form Factor Pluggable) connectivity, allowing the use of noise-isolating optical connectivity with SFP-ready devices, Melco’s entry-level S100/2 and flagship S10 data switches.
There are also USB connectors front and rear, including a USB 3.0 for higher-speed data transfers, such as CD importing with Melco’s dedicated D100 drive/ripper, or expansion storage.
We're also told that the N5-H50’s power supply uses multistage linear regulation following a high-specification audio-grade toroidal transformer on a special vibration-cushion mount device.
The chassis and casework is hand-made in Japan. The chassis construction is centred around a 3mm stainless steel base plate to minimise unwanted vibration.
More obvious niceties include an OLED display panel, and shadow lighting which changes colour in response to machine status.
Available now in black or silver, the N5-H50 retails for £7,499 (EUR 8,999). Distribution is via Audiophile Digital Music Masters Ltd (ADMM).
