McIntosh has announced a new 12-channel digital distribution amplifier, the MI1250.
Specifically designed for custom installation, the new class D amplifier is rated at 12x 50 watts into 8 ohms (90W into 4ohms), utilising closed-loop digital switching amplifiers. It does not require cooling fans to maintain nominal operating temperature, says the manufacturer.
Installer-friendly, with rack-mountable dimensions, the front panel features multi-colour LED indicators to display the status of each channel. On the back, unbalanced inputs are located with two-pole Phoenix-style push-in speaker terminals for each channel, along with volume controls. There are four digital inputs, two optical and two coaxial.
That’s not to say the MI1250 doesn’t look traditionally McIntosh. It has the signature black-glass front panel with illuminated McIntosh logo.
The MI1250 also boasts several proprietary McIntosh technologies including Power Guard signal-overload technology to prevent speaker overdrive, and Sentry Monitor short-circuit protection.
BUS input and outputs are used to distribute the stereo signal to multiple outputs and/or multiple amplifiers and 12-volt triggering. An on/off signal-sensor powers the unit off if no input signal has been detected for a set amount of time and automatically turns the amp on when a signal is sensed.
Shipping in November, the MI1250 will retail for £4,995. Distribution is via Fine Sounds UK. Contact them on +44(0)1592 744710 or visit www.finesounds.uk.
