Marantz CINEMA Series 2 AVRs upgrade audio and gaming tech

Marantz has unveiled the second generation of its CINEMA home cinema receivers, featuring upgraded audio hardware, expanded room correction options and improved gaming support.

The new line-up comprises the flagship CINEMA 50 Series 2, the CINEMA 60 Series 2, the European‑only CINEMA 60 DAB Series 2, and the slimline CINEMA 70s Series 2.

At the core of every model is a new 32‑bit, eight‑channel DAC architecture capable of simultaneous high‑resolution conversion across all channels. Marantz says this improves timing accuracy, stereo imaging and dynamic expression, while creating a more coherent surround field and simplifying the signal path.

The entire range is now also Dirac Live Ready for the first time, complete with Bass Control and Active Room Treatment. All models retain Marantz’s traditional final tuning, carried out in Japan, preserving the warm, musical presentation associated with the brand.

Gaming is also part of the update. Every Series 2 receiver now supports 1440p pass‑through and AMD FreeSync, as well as 4K 120Hz gameplay.

Streaming has been refined through an updated HEOS platform, while a forthcoming firmware update will add Low‑Latency Bluetooth LE Audio for reduced headphone delay.

Installation tools have been strengthened too. Web Control 2.0 allows full configuration from a browser, and CI Mode now includes HDMI Diagnostics 2.0 for faster fault‑finding. Channel Level Monitoring provides real‑time visual feedback across all channels, simplifying setup and troubleshooting.

The CINEMA 50 Series 2 is a nine channel model offering 110W per channel. It gains several exclusive features. Dolby Atmos Channel Expander uses all available loudspeakers when replaying channel‑based Atmos content, and a new Centre Bi‑Amp mode allows compatible centre speakers to be driven more effectively.

The Cinema 60 Series 2  is a seven channel design, with 100W per channel. The Cinema 70 Series 2 also offers seven channels, but at 50W per channel. 

All models retain full‑channel pre‑outs for system expansion.

Externally, the receivers maintain Marantz’s signature industrial design, including the porthole display and sculpted fascia. Internally, copper hardware, revised construction and carefully selected components continue the company’s emphasis on engineering quality. Packaging has also been redesigned with recyclable materials.

The new CINEMA Series 2 receivers arrive on August 15, with the CINEMA 70s Series 2 following on September 15. UK pricing begins at £950 for the CINEMA 70s Series 2, £1,250 for the CINEMA 60 DAB Series 2 and £1,850 for the CINEMA 50 Series 2. In the US, the CINEMA 60 Series 2 is $2,000, while the CINEMA 50 Series 2 is $3,000. European pricing is €1,100, €1,450 and €2,100 respectively.
