Specialist distributor Sound Design Distribution has introduced Lumin’s flagship X2 Network Player to the UK. Positioned at the top of the brand’s range, the X2 builds on technology seen in Lumin's X1, incorporating a new System-on-Chip processor that increases computational capacity for upsampling and signal management.

According to the company, this enables support for file formats up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD512 across a wide roster of streaming platforms, including Spotify Connect, Tidal and Tidal Connect, Qobuz and Qobuz Connect, Amazon Music, KKBOX, TuneIn and AirPlay.

A key development for the X2 is the introduction of a custom discrete DAC, which incorporates dual femto-second crystal oscillators and a dedicated FPGA running algorithms tailored specifically for the player.

The analogue stage includes a fully balanced output module with a dual-stage low-noise regulator and Lundahl transformers, while power is supplied by an external dual-toroidal linear supply. Optical networking is also provided for galvanic isolation from the home network.

Connectivity is broad. Network inputs include Gigabit Ethernet and an SFP optical port, with an integrated switch allowing simultaneous use of RJ45 and optical connections. Local storage can be attached using USB, while outputs cover balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analogue, alongside digital options including USB and BNC SPDIF. Native DSD512 and PCM up to 768kHz are supported over USB, with SPDIF accommodating PCM up to 192kHz and DSD.

For system integration, the X2 incorporates Leedh Processing lossless digital volume control, allowing installers to partner the device directly with power amplifiers. Control is via an updated version of the Lumin app, now offering simplified layout options and playlist tools across iOS, Android, Apple Silicon and Chromebook devices. The player is also Roon Ready and compatible with Audirvana.

The Lumin X2 is available in natural or black anodised aluminium, priced at £12,995.
