Luxury hospitality venue adopts Sonos for flexible multiroom audio

Sonos has been proving its pro AV worth at a boutique hospitality venue that blends accommodation, dining, retail and events inside a restored 17th‑century building.

As part of a full refurbishment of a historic building, Mews House, in Zurich, required a completely new AV and IT infrastructure. The project required an audio system that could deliver high‑quality sound across a wide variety of spaces while remaining discreet and easy for staff and guests to operate.

Audio needed to serve a wide range of use cases, from background music in hospitality spaces to in-room entertainment for guests, without intruding with the building’s high-end aesthetic.

To meet the challenge, integrator SAT Multimedia, supported by distributor Stilus, designed a unified Sonos ecosystem that now spans guest suites, the restaurant, bar, retail areas and a rooftop terrace, giving the venue a flexible, premium audio platform that complements its luxury aesthetic.

The installation centres on Sonos Era 100 Pro speakers, with fifteen pairs positioned throughout the building to provide consistent coverage. Five Sonos Arc Ultra soundbars deliver in‑room entertainment in the guest suites, while outdoor areas are supported by Sonos Outdoor Speakers powered by Sonos Amp units.

The system is divided into multiple zones, allowing staff to adjust audio independently across hospitality, retail and event spaces, while guests interact only with the system in their own rooms via in‑suite iPads.

Integration with the venue’s KNX smart building platform ensures audio sits alongside lighting, climate control and concierge services without adding operational complexity.

According to Mews House’s Head of Hospitality, Lukas Hasler, ease of use has been one of the installations defining strengths.

“The biggest advantage with Sonos is that it’s very easy to handle, and it’s very well known. If you have any issues, you can find solutions quickly, and the sound quality is really excellent,” he says.

The system has enabled Mews House to deliver distinct audio environments across its spaces, with refined playlists in the restaurant giving way to more relaxed tones on the rooftop terrace. Thanks to the grouped zones, maintaining consistency where needed is also easily achievable.

The discreet nature of the speakers also aligns with the venue’s design ethos, avoiding bulky hardware while delivering high-performance sound.
