Specialist audio distributor Sound Design Distribution has announced the UK arrival of the Lumin U2X Network Transport, a new high-performance digital audio streamer designed for Hi-Fi enthusiasts and custom installation. Drawing on technology developed for the brand’s flagship X1, the U2X promises precision engineering and elite-level sound performance for networked AV environments.
The Lumin U2X is positioned as the next evolution in the company’s network transport line, building on the success of the well-regarded U1X. At its core is a newly developed System-on-Chip (SoC) processor that enables advanced upsampling and high-resolution file handling, supporting audio playback up to 32-bit/768kHz PCM and DSD512. This makes the U2X compatible with an extensive range of digital music formats and streaming platforms, including Spotify Connect, TIDAL (and TIDAL Connect), Qobuz, KKBOX, TuneIn, and Apple AirPlay.
Key to the U2X’s sonic upgrade is its audiophile-grade design. A 10MHz precision clock is provided for both inputs and outputs, allowing the device to function either as a master or slave clock in a digital system, ideal for custom installations requiring tight synchronisation and ultra-low jitter. For the first time on a Lumin network transport, a dedicated isolated USB output is included to help reduce interference between the DAC and network system, further enhancing signal purity.
Also of note is the use of an external low-noise power supply, shared with Lumin's flagship X1, to minimise electrical noise and improve dynamic range. Connectivity options include USB, SPDIF, AES/EBU, and TOSLINK digital outputs, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of external DACs and integrated AV systems.
Control is handled via Lumin's updated app, which offers an improved user interface and playlist management across iOS, Android, Apple Silicon and Chromebook devices. The U2X is also fully certified Roon Ready and supports integration with Audirvana.
The Lumin U2X will be available in natural or black anodised aluminium finishes from August 2025, retailing for £8,995.
