Video processing specialist Lumagen has unveiled the latest in its Radiance Pro series, the Radiance Pro 4140. Priced below its predecessor, the Radiance Pro 4240-18G, the new model is apparently designed for ‘entry-level’ home cinema systems, and features a single 18G HDMI input and a 9G HDMI output. There's also a step-up 4140-18G variant which offers an 18G output and is available in a 1U rackmount case.
Installers should note that a 9-GHz output handles 12-bit 4:2:2 at 4k24, but is limited to 8-bit 4:2:0 for 4k60. The Radiance Pro output dither mitigates this difference, but for those that want more headroom, the 18 GHz output allows 12-bit 4:2:2.
"The single HDMI configuration is ideal for entry-level home cinema setups, providing the same outstanding video processing as our other models in the Radiance Pro series," said Jim Peterson, president of Lumagen. "This model allows a broader segment of the home cinema market to experience the industry's best in-motion video processing."
The processor supports 4K60 input and output, HDR10, HLG, and is fully compatible with HDCP 2.3 and Dolby LLDV sources.
HDR Dynamic Tone Mapping (DTM) adjusts tone mapping in real-time based on the content, ensuring that every scene is displayed with optimal brightness and contrast. The Radiance Pro also promises advanced scaling for in-motion video content, instant auto-aspect ratio detection and selection, and a host of customisation features.
The company has also announced that the Radiance Pro 4140, along with its stablemate Radiance Pro processors, can now directly control Seymour-Screen Excellence’s motorised film screen and masking systems.
This functionality allows users without a control system to have the Radiance Pro manage the masking system, eliminating the need for third party control systems like Crestron. An auto-aspect feature detects the aspect ratio of the content being played and sends commands to the Seymour screen masking system to position the mask accordingly.
Peterson elaborated, "We are working with Seymour to allow customers without a control system to have the Radiance Pro directly control the masking system. This integration provides a cost-effective solution for achieving the perfect viewing experience without the need for additional, costly control systems."
Lumagen is currently offering a special promotion for September. Customers purchasing the Radiance Pro 4140 will have the option to upgrade the HDMI output from 9G to 18G. While the 9G output handles 12-bit 4:2:2 at 4K24, it is limited to 8-bit 4:2:0 for 4K60. The 18G output upgrade supports 12-bit 4:2:2 at 4K60.
The Radiance Pro 4140 sells for $5495 and will be demonstrated at the upcoming CEDIA Expo.
