Audio-Technica has unveiled a limited-edition release of the classic ATH-M50x studio headphone, marking more than a decade since its debut. The new ATH-M50x Enso edition pays tribute to the Japanese brand’s heritage, melding professional-grade engineering with artisanal design flourishes.
Since their introduction in 2014, Audio-Technica’s ATH-M50x headphones have become a reference point for audio professionals and enthusiasts alike. The Enso edition celebrates this legacy through a design inspired by Japanese art and symbolism. ‘Enso’ refers to the Zen concept of a hand-drawn circle, representing unity, flow, and perfection achieved through mastery, mirrored here in the headphones’ iconic circular earcup design and a return to a refined all-black finish.
Each pair of ATH-M50x Ensoheadphones features bespoke engraving on the earcups and headband sliders, drawing on sumi ink brushstroke patterns and sound wave motifs. Every unit carries a unique serial number engraved into the matte black housing, underscoring its collectible nature.
Performance specifications remain consistent with the studio-grade M50x blueprint. Proprietary 45 mm large-aperture drivers deliver the clarity and an extended frequency response, while the circumaural earcup design provides effective sound isolation, ideal for studio tracking, mixing, and DJ monitoring.
The headphones maintain the familiar M50x ergonomics, with swivelling earcups for one-ear monitoring, durable earpads, and a collapsible structure for portability. Three detachable cables are included: a 1.2 m–3.0 m coiled cable, a 3.0 m straight cable, and a 1.2 m straight cable.
Audio-Technica has also partnered with Kyoto-based Bamba, a century-old dyeing workshop, to produce handcrafted furoshiki cloths included in a special accessories kit. Two hundred randomly selected buyers will receive a postcard in their packaging revealing that they have won one of these limited Enso accessory sets, which include a custom case and hand-dyed furoshiki wrap.
The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Enso will be available in strictly limited numbers, with only 5,000 pairs produced worldwide. Retail pricing is set at £169 (€199).
