Select LG screens will now begin auto switching to Filmmaker Mode when watching content from Amazon Prime, following a firmware update.
The change affects all LG 2020 and 2021 4K and 8K UHD screens running webOS 5.0 and webOS 6.0, made possible by a flag now being embedded in the content by the Amazon streaming service.
Filmmaker Mode is a universal standard, created by the UHD Alliance, designed to preserve the visual intent of the content creator, to bring the home viewing experience closer to an actual theatrical release.
Filmmaker Mode turns off picture processing settings, such as motion smoothing and image sharpening. It also maintains original aspect ratio, colours and frame rate. Interestingly, while first touted as a movie mode, Amazon is appling the metadata flag to its hit TV shows as well as films. Flagged content includes The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel, The Boys, The Tomorrow War and upcoming The Wheel of Time.
